19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four early-game break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
